Turning Blaa into Something Better

{Blue top - Loft, Skirt - Gap, Sandals - H&M, Bag - Theit}

Cheeeese. How to make a semi-boring outfit fun? Orange lips & fringe sandals. It's the little things in life that can sometimes turn a blaa situation, into something a little more special!  Like this weekend, Hubs and I stayed home on a Saturday night (gasp!).  We had celebrated the Kentucky Derby during the day, and have been on the go for all to long.  So Saturday night, we hung out at home.

We didn't do anything spectacular (cue blaa), but it was a fantastic night.  Comfy clothes. Movie, Night Weather = Grilling.  Yummy dinner.  Best of all, hubs and I.  Just the two of us.  On a Saturday night.  It was a nice evening.  Hubs is the orange lipstick in my outfit.

Leapfrog

I tried not to get blown over or spike myself on a yellow cement pillar during an impromptu game of leapfrog.

{Navy Cardi - J.Crew, Purple Silk Tank - Anthroplogie, Jeans - Gap, Yellow Flats - Target, Pink Cuff - c/o Art on a Wire}

Does this Pink Leather Cuff look familiar?  Michelle Money wore a turquoise version on the Women Tell All episode (seen here). The great people at Art on a Wire sent me my very own as a thank you for blogging about it.  I chose pink.

Now to the leapfrog game.  Lulu won.

 But to be fair.  I did get up a little further, but those photos were not attractive. Lulu makes it look effortless.

Happy Friday!

Shoe of the Day: Wedgy Crush

I have a major crush on wedges this season.  Wedges to me are SO comfy, and allow me to get some height and wear fun sandals, but keep my footsies comfy. So I got new shoes.  Really cute ones. Meet Jaxon.

Nine West Espadrilles Jaxon in hot pink ($79), also come in black, brown & orange.

 Worn with: Anthro Skirt, Gap White Ruffle-Bow Blouse & Stripe Loft Blazer

Oh, and Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!  Follow Me on Twitter

Hot Pink & Gingham

A little bit of 80s neon with preppy gingham?  Yes, please.  Though I didn't realize until looking at these pictures how short this short dress really is.  I think actually, I might have shrunk this, because it didn't use to be that short.

{Dress - Old J.Crew, Gingham Shirt - Gap, Black/white cuff - Gift, Black Flats - Nine West}

 Oh and I got new hair.  Well, a hair re-haul. I went back blond(er), took an inch of dead ends off all around and then 2-3 inches off for layers throughout.  So, it looks a little short and blonder - and I'm able to wear it straight and not see fried ends!  It feels oh-so-good.  If you are in the Kansas City area, I highly (HIGHLY) recommend the amazing (hair artist if you will), Debbie at Belle Epoch.  Call (816.421.2040), get scheduled with Debbie & tell her Meggy from Chasing Davies sent you!

One of the best parts about Miss Debbie (and there are a lot of good parts), she gives an amazing hair wash...like head massage, great products and a good, deep cleaning.  I wish I could go to her once a week just for the hair wash alone.

A Walk in the Park

Yesterday was my weekly photography class (coming to an end soon with only 2 classes left) and we got to take advantage of the sun and blue sky walking around the sculpture park at Nelson's Atkins Museum.  Lulu took my outfit photos while we pranced around.  Remember to check her blog for this weeks I See, You See feature (assignment was reflections)!

For the outfit, I dabbled with color blocking and didn't even wear a neutral.  Citrus green/yellow, bold purple & light turquoise through and through.

{Cardi - J.Crew oldie, Purple top - Forever21 oldie, Skirt - Gap, Belt - Target, Flats - Urban Outfitters oldies}

Does leopard count as a neutral?

Favorite Blogger Outfit: Mixing Prints

Liz at Reston Style is one of my favorite bloggers!  She has great style.  I LOVE the way she mixed stripes with her printed skirt.  I have a similar skirt (maybe the same one) that I'm totally going to wear with stripes.

I also particularly love the pop of color on her lips and her tall socks peeking out from her boots! :)

Necklace - Appalachian Spring
Top and skirt - Gap
Socks - Target
Boots - via TJ Maxx
Watch - Eikon via Lou Lou

Lemon & Lime.

Remember when I was envious for a fabulous green room?   Well, I finally got my own.  My very own pretty green room - kelly green with a touch of chartreuse. The actual paint is by Behr and color is Pepper Grass. The room is my lime.

And I am the Lemon.

{Yellow cardi - J.Crew; Floral dress - Gap; Leopard belt - Target; Black tights - Target; Black wedges - hand me down from friend}

Look at my NEW leopard belt! I love it so much, I wore it with this gray and white dress. I liked the mix of patterns and that it was a bit clashy!  I'll probably be wearing this belt a lot...

Awkwardly in the Garage with my Awesome Closet Doors

Participating again in Awkward & Awesome Thursday!!  1 day until FRIDAY! :)

Awkward:
- My limp hair & puffy face...all signs of a late night of a) blogging, b) packing for Washington D.C., c) working, d) All of the Above.  If you guessed D, you are right!
- The length of my sweater vest with this higher-waisted skirt = poochy mid-section.
- My garage being covered in plastic & paper (have I mentioned I'm ready to have my house back? I'm not sure I have yet.)

Awesome:
- Today's outfit was inspired by Virginie's awesome outfit
- It still feels so good to wear some different clothes than the 30
- Especially wear these brown boots I've missed!
- This plaid shirt... Thrifted,  Men's and by DIOR!  Love it.
- Bright YELLOW tights
- Those are all our pretty closet doors drying.  The white enamel was sprayed on on them, so now they are ready to be hung...as soon as all the rooms are ready to have them.
- Said trip to Washington D.C. this weekend to see Lady Gaga (again) & visit one of my best friends!
- Recent J.Crew purchases!!!  Stripe Painter's Tee worn yesterday & Maritime Dress you will see TOMORROW! :)
- Having more Awesomes that Awkwards - yes!

{Plaid Button Down - Dior, Thrifted; Sweater Vest - J.Crew; Plum Skirt - Gap; Yellow Tights - Target; Boots - Nordstrom Rack; Purse - The Limited}

Day 24 {Simply J.Crew}

A simple lil' outfit, but love.  A bit o' J.Crew stripes, my very favorite statement necklace - J.Crew bubbles (that I got off Ebay) and some J.Crew flats, together less simple?

Added some more color with my outerwear and scarf...

That coat is probably 5+ years old from Gap. And I still love it.
The scarf was a gift from one of my most fashionably influential friends.

And that giant piece of furniture in our garage...one of 2 of our big bedroom furnitures that Hubs and I are refinishing - like what I did to their {much smaller} 2 nightstand table counter parts awhile ago.  One coat down, one more and then 3 coats of poly acrylic to go and it will be so fabulous to have them done! There is some home progress happening, I promise.  And then some big home sharing will happen!

Day 23 {nothing special}

Nothing special today... feeling lazy, tired of these old rags that I've just about worn out and can't find any of my cool accessories to make these clothes better in this house of mine that is STILL under remodeling craziness (aka, an absolute mess).  I'll have some home progress pics soon...

 {Gap houndstooth button down shirt + Urban Outfitters bow-tie hoodie + Gap skinny jeans + lace up heels}

I'm wearing a couple pieces of jewelry I did manage to find... My bird earrings are some of my favorites from one of my favorite Etsy shops, and gold bracelet from Loft.  Hope tomorrow I feel a little better about my outfit!

No that is not our new floor I'm standing on... paper is down to protect the new floor as painting is still in progress...

Day 18 {Before the Snow}

Yes, you're eyes are not deceiving you!  That is green grass you see!  This outfit was worn last week, hours before all the snow - or the SnOMG, or Snomageton, or Snowpocalypse - blizzard. With not posting outfits on the weekends (do you guys?), I get behind between blog and real life sometimes.

{Gingham button-down from Gap; Ivory/Metallic Skirt from Target; Maroon Tights from Target; Booties from DSW; Sequin Bag from Gap & Necklace from Talbots}

 My tights are maroon, not brown...

Get a similar shirt...

Day 17 {Invest}

Remember how boring wearing my plain ol' gray v-neck top was in day 9?  Well I chose to wear it again - after all I only have 30 pieces to wear!  But with a scarf belted to mimic a vest, a bit.

 {Gray v-neck from Gap; Scarf was a gift, Belt from Loft; Yellow Cords from Gap; Booties from DSW}

These pants never fail to put me in a good mood!  They are the perfect shade of sunshine yellow.  I just slip these suckers on and instantly the gray skies don't seem so bad.  However, what I need to work on is mixing other color (besides neutrals!) with them for a really bold, colorful experience!

How would you wear these bright yellow pants? What bold color top would you put with it?
